About Me

Now that you're back, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I have lived a varied life, reared in the Midwest, transplanted first in NYC and then Europe for the better part of my adult life, and I now live in semi-retirement in central Florida. I have been a store clerk, groundskeeper, social worker, grants writer, social service administrator, actor, director, set designer, carpenter/cabinetmaker and sculptor. I have never really known what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I have tried as many things as I could fit into my time and still incorporate craftsmanship into my endeavors.

My purpose in creating this blog is at least two-fold. First, I felt I needed a personal forum for expressing myself while going through the seemingly endless tasks involved in care giving. Now that I have been blogging for a while, I have come to realize the tremendous need for the younger generation to see and value the need for preparing themselves for their future. The likelihood of becoming a caregiver is ever-increasing as the baby-boomer generation approaches the age when they themselves will need to be cared for. For me, I am so grateful that of the four siblings in my family, I was the one with the greatest flexibility in my life to change my direction and take up this task of caring for my mother. She had always supported me, though the good times and the bad. It has become a natural progression for me to reciprocate and in the end I am the one who benefits the most from the encounter. Our intimacy has reached new heights for me. She used to clean me and now I get to do it for her. I never had children and so I missed that process, but I am very grateful that I now am allowed this discovery.
